BIO
Born in South Africa in 1949,Tony Bell developed an early love and appreciation of the blues. Due to his father being an avid blues lover,the family home was always filled with the sounds of Lightnin' Hopkins and Sleepy John Estes.Tony's first guitar,an old F hole acoustic Harmony, was attained at age 10 and that was where the journey began. At age 13 he formed his first band called "The Teen Beats" playing mainly instrumental covers of hits by The Ventures and The Shadows and pop hits of the day.
In 1966, at the age of 17 Tony started his professional music career playing bass and percussion for top Latin American band "The Eduardo Jaime Trio" and touring South Africa's 5 star nightclub venues such as the "Causery" at Durban's Edward Hotel and "The Grapevine" at Johannesburg's Langham Hotel.
In 1967 he helped to form local Durban band "The Vogue" playing Beatles,Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix covers.The band soon turned professional and landed a lengthly contact at one of the top local venues "Club Carnaby".Tony's pro music career was cut short in 1968 when he was conscripted into the South African Army. In the years that followed Tony's versitility came to the fore seeing him playing Guitar,Bass and Drums in many of South Africas top Bands such as.........
The generation Gap, Equinox,Spoonfull,Feelings,The collection and Take Two[with Nick Potgieter AKA Slapback Jack]
Since 1988 he has been playing as a one man band in most of South Africa's top Bars and Clubs. In 1993 Tony moved to the United Kingdom and played for a while on North Sea Ferries nightly trips from Hull to Rotterdam in Holland. He has also released two CD Albums of his own.One in the "Blues" Genre and One in the "Jazz Fusion" Genre.While his chosen music is The Blues,he is equally comfortable playing Rock,Funk,Jazz and Pop.
